What To Do if You've Not Received University Offers

You may have found friends and acquaintances received university over the spring. While it’s unusual to still be waiting in June, this is not a normal year and so the normal rules do not apply. Some teams are still behind in making offers; others are waiting on predicted or actual grades before making an offer. Nothing is normal and so you’re highly unlikely to be alone in this.

It’s Unlikely They’ve Forgotten You

Mistakes and accidents do happen, but the UCAS system rarely leads to people being forgotten. Everything is accessed through UCAS. If there is a record in the system, it’s still under consideration.

Try not to worry about things. Just because you have yet to receive a firm offer, it doesn’t mean they are just going to let your application sit in the inbox gathering dust. Clearing is still a few weeks away so you should hear soon – likely this week or early next.

There may be many reasons why your application is taking longer other than the COVID-19 delays – especially as many students last year decided to defer until this year.

It Isn’t Just You

You’re not alone here. While most people will have received their conditional or unconditional offers, it’s unlikely you are the last one. There are potentially thousands still waiting for offers right now.

It’s mid-June and (if you’re taking them) your exams are likely right around the corner. If you’re not, then your assessment will be based on your coursework performance. Remain focused; if you can’t get the grades you need, you can argue them in this extraordinary year.

Universities Handle Things Differently

Each one is different. Some make their decisions quickly, others not so much. There is nothing normal about this year that started under remote learning conditions and had to consider safety as a major factor – something not experienced in modern times.

Many universities will make offers or rejections by the end of March. In most other cases, offers are sent out by the end of May in a normal year. But again, this is not a normal year.

The time taken to respond is rarely a reflection on you – it’s nearly always a reflection of workload and number of applications to go through.

Clearing

As we said above, the opening of clearing is just a few weeks away now. You should receive an offer soon. If it doesn’t go the way you wanted, or you fail to get the grades for your conditional offer, it’s not the end of the world.

Clearing may not provide the course or the university you wanted, but there will be hundreds of places available around the country.

This year, clearing opens on the 5th of July.
