- Cardiff Metropolitan University (9.2 miles)
Pontypridd is not a town you hear about quite often, especially as a student when you’re thinking of picking a university to go to. Only a short drive away from Cardiff, Pontypridd has two universities, The University of South Wales, and the University of Glamorgan. With well over 25,000 students scattered over the two campuses in Cardiff and Pontypridd, the amount of student accommodation in Pontypridd is insane. With such a big student population, the selection of bars, clubs, and pubs in Pontypridd are vast, Flagstones and the Greyhound Hotel being two places students frequently visit. If you ever need to mix it up, you can drive to Cardiff city centre in around 25 minutes, or catch the local bus. Castle Court Shopping Centre is the closest mall to both universities, you’ll find almost everything you need here, if not, as mentioned Cardiff is not that far away. The local area is quite scenic and I’d personally invest in getting a bike if you make the move here, it’s the best way to get around and see the place. Several museums are scattered throughout the town, loads of weekend activities for the students, including clay pigeon shooting, archery, and even off road quad biking. Almost everyone here speaks English as well as Welsh, so you’ll be fine with getting around, the area is quite small and the local people tend to be quite welcoming. With the huge amount of students in relation to the size of the town, Student accommodation in Pontypridd is good value, with furnished single rooms starting from £46 a week!
