- York University (1.6 miles)
York is in the North of England, and has two universities, The University of York, and York St John University. It’s estimated that between them they cater for around 20,000 students from all over the country, making York Student accommodation widely available, in almost every suburb. The nightlife in York is pretty good with several different places offering various deals throughout the week, with the main clubs being True, Salvation, Gallery and BMP. If you’re like me and enjoy a pint at the pub while watching the game, York is estimated to have over 200 pubs, meaning you’re never too far away from a watering hole should you need one. Monks Cross and Coppergate Shopping Centres are pretty central to the city, where you can find a ton of places to shop, eat, or even take your laptop and study using one of the free WiFi spots. York is a beautiful city with plenty of things to see and do, many historic sites and greenery all around. I should also mention that other major cities such as Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield are only a short train journey away. If you’re coming to York alone and would like to make friends, there’re literally hundreds of student societies to join up to, making it easy to meet new people and settle into university life. In terms of finding student houses or flats in York, they have everything from bedsits, flats, and large student houses, some offering rooms as low as £60 per week.
