Preston, or more specifically, the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) recently hit the news after a video went viral of a group of its students in a jamming session with none other than Coolio (if you haven’t already seen it, yes, the song was “Gangsta’s Paradise”). He may have cooked them a three course dinner and has made plans to return to perform with his new troupe, but we can’t guarantee that such an experience will occur if you choose Preston as the city in which you take your education further. Student Life in Preston
UCLan’s “urban campus” with its buildings located around the Prest, clinging on to the city centre itself. This means that before you even go to classes, you know you’re not too far from whatever it is you want to do once they’ve finished. But just because its campus is urban, there’s plenty of ruralness to explore and enjoy; with over â…” of Preston being set in countryside, you can easily escape the rush of the student city.
53 Degrees is the ideal location for nightlife. It hosts events, live gigs and performers across two rooms and owns its well deserved title of “the North West’s most unique venue”-and that’s just on campus. Around the city itself are plenty of pubs, bars and clubs to keep everyone happy, no matter your taste. It may not boast as many choices as places such as Manchester and Liverpool, but remember, you’re not far from either! Take an evening out on just a short train ride to benefit from surrounding cities’ nightlife. But if you’re happy enough where you are then you’ll be even more so when you know that Preston holds the international “Purple Flag” status, meaning it’s recognised as being a well maintained (safe and clean!) city centre after dark.
Preston Accommodation for Students on a Budget
The average weekly rent per student in a shared house is £67.50 a week. This will vary as with every other city that offers student accommodation in terms of location, features and utilities included. For a little more luxury and convenience, especially if you have a larger group, this beautiful listed house has ten very large bedrooms as well as four bathrooms and separate toilets. Finished to a high standard with new furnishings and carpets, £85 per person per week is an excellent deal when you throw in ALL bills as included (even Sky and Netflix!).
Private halls are also a great choice for those who want the ease of socialising as well as care-free living with everything when it comes to bills and security being taken care for them. Liberty Living’s Liberty Court (Nee, Foundry) have flats of 3-7 beds with 142 Premium Study rooms and ALL en-suite. iQ Preston is even closer to campus and has en-suited rooms throughout too. It’s location is social enough without having its own “Social Hub”-a known iQ perk at all of its locations.
