The campus itself is situated in the heart of Barnsley, a town in the rural lands of South Yorkshire. This little gem boasts its own much loved football team, as well as being only a short distance from Leeds, Sheffield and the beautiful peak district, perfect for students who want to escape uni life for the day. Barnsley is known for its friendly residents but be warned, for you southerners out there, prepare yourself for thick northern accents and words and phrases so alien that they might as well be in ancient greek.
Student Life at UCB
One of the biggest benefits for students living in Barnsley is the cost of living. Unlike other, bigger, university cities the town of Barnsley comes cheaper than most, something very important to a group of people known for their lack of financial security. However, as the campus is so small the university lacks a student union bar but, bars in the town are very welcoming to students offering deals and cheaper nights for those looking for a good watering hole. Barnsley itself also has a growing music scene and for all those mellow students who just like to sit back and groove, rather than jump about in a sweaty night club, you may have just found the idea of a perfect night. Transportation around the town is also easy, buses run frequently and the train station is close to the campus. However, for things like food shopping, students will find supermarkets within easy walking distance, another way of saving that all important sterling.
